With the time fast approaching 9am it looked like Brueton’s Christmas party would be cancelled. The Grinch had left too much ice for the run to go ahead…. But the parkrun Elves pulled a Christmas miracle out of Santa’s sack and improvised a course that was too short, off road, all over the place, looped and generally a right old mess… And everyone loved it.
Thank you to everyone at Brueton parkrun who worked hard to ensure everyone’s Christmas wish for a Brueton start to the day went ahead. The true spirit of Christmas.
On the course of Christmas Chaos Chris Sharp took first, Greg Sharp second and Paul Bentley third in the K&D order of merit. For the women Santa’s favourite Kathy Bailey took first, Amanda O’Leary second and Kate Marsh third.
In 10th place was Jez Bragg. A UK 100km Champ. Jezz has also finished third in the iconic 100mile Wester States Ultra. He won UTMB in 2010 (on a short course due to weather – so he was in his element on Christmas Day). He also set the FKT (Fastest Known Time) for the New Zealand Te Arbroath Trail in New Zealand (3,050km in 53 days). Jezz has family in the area and runs for Bournemouth AC these days.
Torbay Velopark parkrun:
Down on the south coast Chairman Darren broke 18 for the first time in 3 months running a surprise 17:59. David John, having found out he has 7 blood clots in his leg on Thursday, ran 32:34. Like father like son.
parkrun doesn’t consolidate results like on a normal Saturday so if you ran elsewhere but I haven’t seen your results please do @ us on Twitter or reply in the comments on Facebook.
