Ed’s Solo Solihull Marathon

Macmillan Cancer Support

Tomorrow marks the culmination of a massively impressive block of training for one K&D runner. We asked Ed to write a few words about his lockdown feats so far, with one more big effort still to come. To sponsor him, please click on the link below. Good luck Ed!

I moved back to Solihull 7 years ago and joined Knowle and Dorridge Running Club shortly after seeing a K&D group flying around Tudor Grange park.

Roll on several years and I got myself in shape for the Manchester marathon in 2017 and set a huge PB – completing it in 3h30m.
This year, 2020, as we all know, is very different.
With an ambition to break 40 minutes for 10k for the first time, and no real marathon ambitions, I gradually increased the mileage and intensity.
Then lockdown began, and I kept going.
I’ve now completed well over 1,000 miles since January all out on the roads, breaking all my PB’s from 1km to half marathon (including breaking 40 minutes for 10k!).
And there was one significant PB to go…
I am doing a marathon on Friday 18 September on a route I have chosen on and off road around the Solihull area on my own.
An individual time trial marathon.
No closed roads, no drink stops, no supporters.
No one to follow, no one chasing.
I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support because they were right there to support someone very close to me over the last year.
If you’re able to donate just a small amount, it really would be greatly appreciated. Here’s the link:

And thanks to all of you from K&D who have helped and supported me since I joined – it’s a top club with top people that just keeps getting stronger and stronger.
