Inter-Club Run – 17th Aug: The Pensom Perspective

Inter Club run, 17th August: A Call To Arms!

Rather than have Darren keep sending all the reminders and messages, I wanted to send out a short message to encourage as many K&D’ers as possible to sign up to the (free!) Inter Club Run on Thursday 17th August, 7.30pm in Kenilworth (sign up via K&DRC website).

Watching the Athletics World Championships through my fingers as GB athletes’ finish 4th left right and centre (come on Mo!), it has reminded me of how great it is to put on a vest with my fellow runners and represent K&DRC. The first race that I took part in as a K&D athlete was the Inter Club run a few years ago that we organised at Silhillians. A great evening, very well organised, with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Which, bearing in mind we were “battling” against other local clubs was testament to the supportive environment we and other local running clubs seek to foster. That spirit and atmosphere helped to bring me closer into the club, and showed me that running races aren’t just for the elites- everyone is welcome to take part and add to the proceedings.

This year’s Inter Club Run is a 10km run and takes place in Kenilworth on Thursday 17th August at 7.30pm. Meet at Castle Farm Sports Centre, Fishponds Road, Kenilworth. Parking is not available there, so please park in the town and it is a 5 minutes’ walk down to the start (map below). After the race there will be food and presentations at the Gauntlet PH in Caesar Road, so there is a chance to congratulate PB’s and great efforts, while refuelling after a 10km challenge.

The run is free to enter, it promises to be another great event to put on the K&D vest for, and to run and celebrate with your fellow runners and friends. I look forward to seeing many of you there!
