Some fast and furious action of the weekend. Missing their parkrun fix, K&D’s Grand Prix saw athletes take on the 5k after a few weeks off. They were quickly reminded how much that last 2k can hurt. (Jeez, do we really do that every Saturday at 9am for fun!?)
In the women’s race the top-3 (Evans, Callinan and Green) remain the same but the battle for 4th remains way too close to call with just 0.03 points separating Linda Whitehead and Zam Williamson. While less than 2 points separates 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th places.
K&D’s men are led strongly by evergreen Steve Armstrong who put in an excellent 20:19 5k for 79.98 Age Grade points. Half a point separated the 2nd and third place though as Habib’s sub-17 moved him up 1 spot. 0.49 points aheead of Michael Williamson. How much difference will the 3 years age grade make over 1k? Positions 1-9 are all averaging more than 70% age grade so far. While Stuart Male, having missed round 1 will be looking to pick off a few more names having already scalped Brian Corr.
In the battle of the sexes it’s the ladies who currently lead with Jane Evans playing the role of Billie Jean King to Steve Armstrong’s Bobby Riggs. Nigel Foster and Chris Wellings were big movers over the weekend, jumping 5 and 4 places. While Pete Makepeace, Rob Ambrose, Anna Delaney all jumped 3 places in the overall leaderboard and will be looking for further gains over the 1k.
