K&D Marathon Fundraising Goodness *Updated 10/2/20*

It’s that time of year when some people will be running marathons for fun, personal challenge or to raise monies. At our Christmas Quiz we raised £190 for The Barrie Wells Trust & Box4Kids – a charity that provides VIP experiences to seriously and terminally ill children. These much deserved experiences provide quality time for each child and their guest, away from the day to day challenges they face with their illnesses. 

For anyone that has spare change down the sofa and would like to contribute to our club member’s charitable endeavours:

Who: Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell
What: Manchester Marathon
Who For?: Target Ovarian Cancer
Why: Because her ovaries are dodgy and a recent scare, 35cm cyst, wonky blood tests and cancer spot made her think, might as well. Plus Target Ovarian Cancer help people like Ann. And blimey does she need help. Target Ovarian cancer are working to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide much-needed support to women

Who For?: Fields in Trust
Why: One of my partners with work, Fields in Trust do valuable work in enshrining access to green spaces for all – so that events like parkrun can happen and not be developed on

What: London Marathon
Who For?: Chron’s and Colitis UK
Why: Having lived with Chron’s for more than a decade, 2018 saw Gary undergo major bowel removal surgery (40cm). Gary has bravely confronted the problem and raised awareness within the club, the money raised will help vital research, support and awareness about Crohn’s and Colitis.

What: London Marathon
Who For?: Queen Alexandra College
Why: Stuart is raising money for a new therapy room at the College, in the gym, to help students. Queen Alexandra College is a college for the blind, visually impaired and learners with Asperger Syndrome and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Who: Kate Richards
What: London Marathon
Who For?: Brain Tumor Research
Why: Kate lost her Father, aged 69, following a Brain Tumour diagnosis in 2007. Since then she has raised money for Brain Tumor Research. Approximately 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in the UK every year and there are estimated to be over 60,000 people living with a brain tumour. Brain Tumour Research support vital research into the causes, impact and treatments available to brain tumour patients

Who: Kerry Whitehill
What: London Marathon
Who For?: BLISS Premature and Sick Babies
Why: Kerry’s daughter was born 6 weeks early, weighing in at just 2lb 10 oz.  She was in Heartlands Neo Natal unit for 6 weeks.  BLISS provide equipment and nurses to Neo Natal units across the country and undertake life saving research for babies born early.
