The ladies team were also in action yesterday at the third XC league fixture in Droitwich. The enthusiasm shown for XC this season continued with 11 ladies planning to run, but unfortunately sickness led to some late withdrawals and a team of 7 on the day.
The wet and windy weather made for challenging boggy conditions. The course was an interesting one combining woodland, canal and field sections – the hill climb in the woods was particularly tough on the second lap!
There was a high calibre field of over 300 with the race won by GB athlete and Loughborough student Jess Judd. The K and D team put in a fantastic performance with Jane Evans coming home 4th (despite one of her shoes falling apart and eventually losing the whole thing!). She was followed in by Amanda O’Leary, Claire Magee, Karen Brennan, Sarah Roberts, Louise Bell and Kerry Whitehill. The team were 11th overall (from 29) and the masters team 7th (from 30). Updated league standings are awaited.
A special thank you to Kathy Bailey who made the tough (but sensible) decision not to run just before the race due to illness, but gave much appreciated support with son Jack.
The next (and last) league fixture will be on 7th February in Wolverhampton. Hope to see you there!
