Men’s Cross Country Results: Solid Start Amid Late Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Despite a last minute change of venue from Worcester to Coventry and an 11:30am start it was a full K&D Team that turned out for the season opener as K&D’s men took on the brightest and best in the Birmingham and District Cross Country League. The likes of Birmingham Uni, Birchfield and Tipton prove tough competiton but with our strongest ever squad and a plethora of men running fast right now K&D finished an excellent 12th/17 teams on the day. With a great 83pt cushion over the relegation spots.

Chris Sharp, keen to re-establish his credentials as club show-pony took on the upstarts Gareth Wainwright and Rob Michaelson-Yeates as all three men pushed hard – finishing excellent 47th, 75th 81st places. Three great results that set the team up nicely.

Key to the men’s success was a great pack effort as Chris Morgan backed them up in fourth scoring 85pts, Gary Polhill just missing a top 100 place in 105th and Nick Woolley ib 116th securing the A team a superb 509pts overall score. Putting the guys above Cannock, Leamington, Halesowen and Bournville.

It was brilliant to see Stephen Ray and Gary Welsh making their Division 1 debut’s. They’ll be flying by spring with that kind of hard work in the bank!
Every single person who ran on Saturday took points of other teams’ A or B scorers. So basically it looks like anyone Gary Welsh or faster can contribute to the scores this season! But cross country is superb for all abilities. You just have to be brave enough to take a bit of a beating by the fast chaps. But considering Sharpy finished 47th – that applies to all of us.

It’s also worth noting the superb runs by the likes of Torsten, David Carbutt, and Tim Price who showed their classy XC chops. And a big thank you to Richard Dixon for volunteering. As well as the Rob Michaelson Yeates and others who helped the league get the race set up super early.

Race two is Saturday 7th December in Stoke. If you would like adding to the Men’s XC Whatsapp or let us know you’d like to run email
