Men’s XC: Job Done at Leamington

, , ,

K&D’s men rounded out a superb season in Division One of the Birmingham & District Men’s Cross Country League with a superb 12th place at the end of the season. In all truth K&D’s men were well clear of the relegation scrap all season delivering consisten brilliance to record a total score of 1867pts. 328 points clear of the drop.

K&D men missed the talents of Chris Sharp but our incredible strength in depth kept us in mid-table comfort. Run of the day goes to Gareth Wainwright who scalped Rob Michaelson-Yeates to finish an excellent 49th. Rob, on tired legs still cruised in 55th overall. Gary Polhill’s incredible run of form continues as he (73rd) and Chris Morgan (74th) crossed the line seconds apart. Chros Thorley (109th) and Steve Whatmore (118th) consolidated an excellent top-6.

Our depth was on show in the bunching of Torsten Roesler (129th), Habib Farazmand (130th), Dave Carbutt (131st). Rob Mundy (143rd) and Richard Dixon (149th) who crowded out the top 120-150th places. Adding valuable points to other teams were Danny Malone (161st) and Greg Turner (169th). More on Greg Later. Stuart Male put in a strong run for the team (179th), while Ed Bower finished strong (186th) and Paul Bentley delivered one of the photos of the day (192nd). A poorly Darren John puked his way over in 193rd, suffering stomach issues on the very hilly course. The team was rounded out by Andrew Connors (202nd), Phil Wood (212nd) and pete Austin (221st).

Every K&D runner added points to either the opposition A or B team. A showing that emphasises the importance of teamwork and turning out for the team.

K&D men join the women’s team in securing their place next season against the elite and now look at moving up the league at just how good they can be. Our men’s strength in depth making them a formidable unit going into the road relays and summer running.

The men’s club shorts this year were worn with Oomph! by Greg Turner. In acknowledgement to his fine contribution by directing a car full of K&D men to the Race Director’s house instead of the race venue in January’s XC fixture. Greg left it all on show. Perhaps too much. Or too little. It was a very cold day judging by the evidence on show.
