Midland Road Relays: 4x The Fun for K&D Men

, ,

The biggest ever field of K&D Men pulled on their Green and Gold vests and in temperatures more akin to the Algarve rather than Sutton Park in Mid-September put on some sizzling hot performances. The men’s A team finished a superb 16th team (13th Club over all once you remove the big gun’s B teams). Last year in the equivalent race we were 1 minute 41 seconds slower – finishing 25th (19th club). The A team have qualified for the National Road Relay Championships on Oct 6th.

K&D’s B Team last year ran 2:18:29. This year our ‘B’ Brigade ran a storming 2:10:49 to finish handily inside the top-50 at 46th. Amazingly K&D also had at least another 6 men not running who could have slotted into the B team – a sign of our top class strength in depth.

There was a titanic battle for the ages as our C and D teams were pitted head to head. Leg 1 was between Ainsley and Michael and only 12 seconds split the two.Paul Bentley and Daniel Mays pulled the C team up to as high as 73rd at one point. While C had the quickest runners right now, D had the more consistent times and by the end of leg 5 D had taken the lead in 82nd place before a heroic last leg by Jason Pitcher say him pull back on Gary Welsh. A split difference of just 50 seconds after more than 20 miles of racing separated the two teams as C just pipped a heroic effort by the D’s.
