The RUNdown – 14th June

Cheltenham Festival of Running: 1st in Age Group places for Jason Pitcher and Karen Sweeney

It was hot, hot, hot for the Cheltenham festival of running, which saw a few of our members travel to the Cotswolds to take part in this scenic race that starts and ends at Cheltenham Racecourse, and offers a variety of distances (1/2 Marathon, 10k and 5k). Jason Pitcher and Lloyd Barton took on the half marathon distance, with the route taking in iconic towns like Montpellier, Landsdown and the old Honeybourne Line. Lloyd still had the previous week’s “Hilly 100” hills in his legs, so opted to drop out at 10km, but Jason went on to finish 1st in his age category in a great time of 1:40:59

Karen Sweeney took on the 5k distance, also achieving a 1st in age category in a time of 28:48

GB Age-Group Team call-up for Jude Mansfield

After competing in a duathlon event last October (10k run/40k bike/5k run), Jude found out in March that she had qualified to race for the GB Age-group team at the European Championships due to be held in Romania this summer.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, the event has been postponed to next year,  but gives her more time to practise transitions and riding on her new TT bike (those of you who follow her on Strava know just how hard she trains). Fantastic achievement Jude, and we’ll look forward to following your progress!
