Men’s XC: Race 2 (by Men’s Captain Greg Turner)

18 of the K&D men took on the second round of division two Cross Country, this time at Ipsley Meadows in Redditch, the first 6 home were in Nick Woolley in 34:18 and 16th overall, Gareth Wainwright in 35:58 and 40th overall, Chris Thorley in 36:50, 58th overall, Gary Polhill in 37:15 and 64th overall Matt Hipwell in 37:35, 75th overall, closely followed by Rene Virgo who ran 37:40 and finishing 77th overall on his maiden Cross Country outing since joining.

Greg Turner was the next runner home in 38:07 and finishing 83rd Overall. Torsten Roesler, Mick Williamson and Ben Jones (another strong performance on his K&D XC Debut!) were close behind in 38:41 (96), 38:53 (100) and 39:02 (101) respectively, Paul Baker 39:46 (111), Rob Mundy 39:49 (112), Tim Price 40:14 (119), Dave Carbutt 40:27 (123), James Taylor 40:43 (126), Anthony Ellis 41:37 (137), Lewis Towers 42:42 (144) and Pete Austin 46:36 (180) all finishing strongly on the best showing of runners this season!

A big thank you to Jon Jennings who volunteered and enjoy watching the suffering of others for once ! If you are interested in running Cross Country please let Greg Turner or Nick Woolley know as it is suitable for everyone, no matter what you think your ability is, it’s a fantastic way of building strength for road season. The next round will also be close to home at Burton Dassett Country Park in Leamington, which will share the same venue as K&D Women meaning an added cheer, cakes and if you’re lucky, some novelty K&D facepaint- which definitely takes a few seconds off your times as well as looking great whilst you fly past! Looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!

The club is also hosting a Curry Night Open to all member at Dawaat in Knowle- all the more reason to get signed up for the final race to build up an appetite for the evening!

Ladies XC (by Ladies Captain Katie Price)

Race three took the ladies to Warley Woods in West Birmingham. It was a wet cold day with one group hiding in their car for 10 minutes while they plucked up the courage to brave the elements. It was a small team this month with many injuries or niggles affecting other members of our regular team. But that didn’t stop the amazing 8 taking on what was heard to have been the toughest one this year so far. Luckily the weather held of once the race started and the ladies set off strong and even with a small group we ended up finishing 4th in the Masters group with Myshola, Monica and Anna D all finishing in the top 80 which is amazing considering we are taking on European champions and the very young girls who are old enough to be daughters of the majority of the team. No matter what, the team spirit is always top class.

The ladies worked together to put up the event shelter in record time as it started raining again, Katie Price was cheering everyone on with her loud voice been heard in different areas of the course, Linda bought her amazing flap jacks and Anna’s mum was team photographer. We missed our main cheerleader Jane Evans and we hope she will be back strong again in February. It is not too late to join in with the last race of the series at Burton Dassett on 11th Feb where we have the men to cheer us on (and vice versa) too
