THE RUNDOWN – 17TH OCTOBER: AMSTERDAM, YORKSHIRE & PARIS MARATHONS, OXFORD & WESTON HALF MARATHONS, CITY OF BIRMINGHAM 10K & PARKRUN
AMSTERDAM, PARIS & YORKSHIRE MARATHONS
The marathon season continues, this week seeing a couple of our runners travel to Europe to take on two of the big city races: the Amsterdam marathon for Darren John, who finished in a speedy time of 3 hours and 11 minutes, and the Paris marathon for Mike McDonald – his second in just 3 weeks – which he completed in an excellent time of 3 hours 41 minutes. Closer to home, Peter Little ran the Yorkshire marathon in 4 hours 40 minutes, finishing 11th in his age category.
Oxford and Weston Half Marathons and City of Birmingham 10k
Caroline Park travelled to Oxford, and completed the half marathon in 1 hour 55 minutes, whilst Alison Giblin was a little West running the Weston Half Marathon, finishing in a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes. Close to home, Katie Price ran the City of Birmingham 10k, finishing in a time of 56:20.
Another good attendance this week, and also seeing our first “foreign” parkrun mention for a long time, see Darren John run in Amsterdam prior to his marathon. Closer to home, it was 2nd overall for George de Bolla, and 1st lady for Jane Evans in a speedy time of 18: 36 at Brueton. Parkrun PBs this week for Tasha Campbell, Janice Lisiecki, Hannah Hopkin, Richard Dixon and Simon Battson.
Two special shout outs to K&D members at Brueton on Saturday: firstly thanks to everyone who helped or offered to help with the runner who had a bad fall. Secondly, well done to the K&D member who stopped to encourage a young future athlete to keep going and ran with her to the finish. Both actions show that there is so much more to running than fast times or PBs..though they are always great to get!
