THE RUNDOWN – 23RD OCTOBER: MIDLANDS COUNTIES XC RELAYS, CANNOCK CHASE HALF, CARDINHAM TWILIGHT TRAIL RACE, LEEDS ABBEY DASH & PARKRUN

Midlands Counties Men’s XC Relays

The start of the cross country season is always a shock to the system after months of running on smooth tarmac, but 4 K&D members stepped up to start their racing early at the Midlands XC Relays in Wolverhampton.

Ably led by captain Greg Turner and despite most of the members either in the midst of or recovering from illness, the quartet battled strongly on a deceptively difficult course to compete with the best in the region. Results aren’t currently available however fingers crossed for a good result and a place in the National competition. The other members were Billy Connors, Nick Woolley and Dave Carbutt.

Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon

Bruce Hampton and Linda and Keith Whitehead took on the undulating trails of the Cannock Chase Trail Half Marathon. All three finished in 2 hours and 37 minutes, and well done to Linda for 1st FV65, and Keith for 2nd MV65.

Leeds Abbey Dash

Chris Revell travelled north for this race which he’s “always circled on the calendar but never managed to do” until this weekend. One of the fastest 10km race courses in the country, unfortunately today’s conditions were challenging to say the least: Chris reported that at the 5km mark the road was more like a stream! Nonetheless, he finished in a very respectable 36 minutes 14s.

Cardinham Twilight Trail Run

Tanya Cronin took part in this unusual race: 5 miles of “twilight” trail running in the Cardinham Forest near Bodmin, finishing in 58 minutes and coming 20th overall.
