THE RUNDOWN – 24TH APRIL: BOSTON MARATHON, SOUTH WEST COASTAL PATH TRAIL HALF MARATHON, SHAKESPEARE MARATHON & HM, WREXHAM ELITE HM, LEICS BIG 10K & PARKRUN
Boston Marathon
Bank Holiday Monday saw Darren John run the iconic Boston Marathon, and despite some issues with training in the run-up to the race, and an extended loo break on the day, ran a very respectable 3 hours and 23 minutes, and enjoyed it all, describing the race as “bl**dy awesome”!
South West Coast Trail Marathon, Half and 10K
Paul Winwood, Mike McDonald, John Garside and Paul O’Donnell travelled down to Devon to take on the South West Coastal Path Trail Half Marathon in pretty windy conditions. The 22km route (almost 14 miles) took them through through Bolberry on to South Hursh and around Hope Cove before joining the coast path and enjoying the path to Overbecks House before heading back up to the finish, with the marathon route going round the whole thing again. Paul finished the HM event in 2 hours 53mins, with Paul, Mike and John completing the (ultra) marathon 28-mile route in 6 hours 19mins, 6 hours 33 mins and 6 hours 34 mins respectively
Monica Green took on the 10k route with daughter Kathryn – which was long at over 6.74 miles – coming not only 1st in her age category, but 1st lady overall in a time of 59:44 (with Kathryn coming 3rd overall too)
Shakespeare Marathon and Half Marathon
Michael Williamson ran the full marathon distance, finishing 12th overall and an excellent 1st in his age category, in a time of 3 hours and 3 minutes
Kathy Bailey (pictured here with son Jack who also ran his first HM) led the Half Marathon distance K&D crew home, with Robert, Kevin, Darryl and Karen not far behind. Full results are in the table below:

Wrexham Elite Half Marathon – new PB for Men’s Captain Chris Sharp!
Chris and Flick Sharp travelled to Wrexham for the fast and flat Elite Half marathon, and both clocked excellent times: a new PB of 1 hour 10 minutes for Men’s Captain Chris (also coming 8th overall in a very competitive field, and Flick was 17th lady, again in a quick time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Leicestershire Big 10k
Chris Revell ran this event that starts in Leicester’s Abbey Park, finishing an excellent 8th overall in a time of 36:15, which was a new PB by over 38 seconds!
Parkrun Roundup
Saturday morning saw a record 70 K&D members running at 19 parkruns around the country, in sunny but windy conditions. 3 PBs to report this week: new parkrun PB for Katie Price at Bushy where it all started. Well done also to Alice Green for her PB at Arrow Valley, and Jason Pitcher for his new PB at Brueton. Special mentions also to Christopher Ashford (1st overall at Brueton) and Kerry Thompson and Louise Bell (1st & 3rd ladies) also at Brueton. Well done also to Nick Woolley for 1 1st overall at Warwick Racecourse, and to George de Bolla for 2nd overall at Longrun Meadow and to Juliet Jones for coming 1st lady (and 11th overall) at Aberystwyth.
