THE RUNDOWN – 28TH AUGUST: COMRADES ULTRA MARATHON PENINE TRAIL MARATHON, SPITFIRE 10K & PARKRUN

Comrades Ultramarathon

The Comrades  ultramarathon of approximately 89 kilometres (55 mi) which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg. It is the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon race, and this year attracted over 14,000 participants. Huge well done to Anthony Ellis completed the gruelling race in an excellent time of 9 hours and 48 minutes

Pennine Trail Marathon

John Garside and Paul O’Donnell travelled north for the scenic Pennine Train Marathon. Paul finished 95th overall in a time of 6 hours and 1 minutes, with John completing his 43rd marathon in 6 hours and 14 minutes, (finishing in 102nd place overall)

Spitfire 10k

It was the Spitfire 10k race for a few of our ladies,  which takes place at the RAF Midlands Museum, starting at Hangar 1, then a loop of the Museum site past iconic aircraft including the VC10, Hercules and Britannia, before heading onto the airfield at RAF Cosford.

First home for K&D was Karen Ratcliffe in a time of 54:55 followed by Sam Edginton and Sara Rowell who both finished in a time of 1 hour and 12 minutes. Sarah Laxton and Jo Tork were next home, both finishing in 1 hour 18mins.

Parkrun Roundup

Good turnout over the weekend at a number of parkruns around the country (lots of parkrun touristing going on with people away on summer and Bank Holiday weekend breaks!). Well done to Nick Woolley for 1st overall and a new PB and to Anna Delaney for 2nd lady (and also a new PB) at Brueton. Well done also to Paul Baker for his 1st overall at Ambleside parkrun, and to Flick Sharp (1st lady at Dolgellau) and to Monica Green (3rd Lady at Portrush) and also to Amelia Crees for an excellent 3rd Lady at Oaklands!
