National Road Relays

Men’s Race (by Men’s Captain Greg Turner)

12 of K&D’s Men braved the wind and warm weather and travelled to the hallowed roads of Sutton Park for the ERRA Twelve Stage Road Relays! The 6 Long (5.38 m) and 6 Short legs (3.1 m) were made even tougher by the conditions, Gareth Wainwright got us off to a great start running 29:55, Gary Polhill (31:57) who was injured before his run by dodgy apparatus on the coffee stand, Matt Hipwell (30:30), Joe Hook (31:08), George De Bolla (30:54) who had a tremendous return to the team and Mick Williamson (31:36) who all had fantastic long legs were sandwiched between short leg runner of Rene Vergo (18:28), Jon Jennings (18:15), Greg Turner (18:36), Anthony Ellis (19:00), Dave Carbutt (18:39) and Paul Baker (19:12) to finish in a very respectable 26th Position which is fantastic for a club of our size! Leeds city fronted by future Paris Olympian Phil Sesemann won the crown that day!

Ladies’ Race (by Myshola Kirkham)

A windy day at the road relays. Tent and flag erected only to be taken down. Ladies set off in competitive race, Myshola Kirkham running first leg gaining a better time than 2 weeks previous.Next off was Emma Horsfield who pulled the team from 40th to 36th on the first of the short legs. Amanda O’Leary continued the strong running , maintaining the team position again running faster than the Midlands. Jess Woolley was next off on a long leg ,full of smiles but tough going in the windy conditions finding it hard to gain she managed to chase down 1 place to set Kerry Thompson off in 35th place. Conditions improving allowed both Kerry and Kate Leeson (as a late replacement) to chase down the overall team position to 33rd. A great day out running against the top athletes in the country as a team.
