Thinking of Running Birmingham Half for Charity? Solihull AgeUK

Solihull Age UK are looking for runners to participate in the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Half Marathon on Sunday 15 October on behalf of Age UK Solihull.

Here is the link to the page on their website:

Running for Age UK at Birmingham Half

Although it says £35 to register, if anyone is interested, Age UK will ‘buy’ the token for entry but in return they ask that runners raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship.

Despite the ‘UK’ in our name, Age UK Solihull is a local charity based here in The Core at Solihull Central Library.  Each year, we help over 20,000 older people with information, advice, practical help and companionship – we believe that ‘no-one should have no-one’ and are a trusted friend to many in the Solihull borough, which has a higher than national average proportion of over 65’s.

We receive only 1.2% of our funding from the national Age UK organisation and have our own separate charity number.  All the money the runners raise will therefore stay in Solihull to help continue to pay for our vital services.

We will support runners with help with setting up a sponsorship page, running vest/t-shirt and be there on the day too.

If anyone is interested, please get in touch with Jayna or myself here in the Fundraising Team (there are only the 2 of us in the team).

Lorraine Hart

I (Darren John) work at The Core, Solihull where Age UK have their offices and had a very nice chat with Lorraine Hart of Age UK today. With a number of people doing their first half at Birmingham every year I suggested we may have people interested in supporting their work; plus with RIchard Dixon swiftly approaching that kind of age…

Sorry Richard!

If anyone is interested in running with Age UK please contact Lorraine Hart on or one of the  phone numbers above.
