Shakespeare Half Marathon

With temperatures rising in Stratford as the morning rolled on runners were beginning to feel the heat an hour into the Half and Full Marathon’s. It felt more like August and for participants in the 26.2 miles there wasn’t a single cloud in the sky.

Darren John in the Half was as high as 6th before cramping in his left calf meant he had to stop to stretch and limited his last 3km to a bit of an uncomfortable ant-lope. He held on to 11th place over all in 1:20:59. Paul Baker put in a strong showing to run 1:25:28 and finish 25th. Ed Bower brought the top-3 to a close with a 1:34:23 in 126th.

For the women Emma Donnelly led a close 1-2 battle with Sarah Cattell. Emma ran out winner 1:45:57 to 1:48:42 with Tanya Cronin 3rd lady in 2:32:57.

Brueton parkrun

Another bumper crowd saw Brueton’s record attendance rise again – hitting 580. Gareth Wainwright was at the front of the masses with a good 17:20 run to take 2nd place overall. He was followed by Darren John in 17:49 and recent club joinee David Mills in 17:53 (PB).

Flick Sharp broke 20 minutes again with a 17:59. Finishing 22nd overall and first lady. Congrats! Behind her Kathy Bailey continued to pepper her PB with close shots in 21:50. It’s coming! Rachel Aston also joined in the fun clocking 24:20.

Excelling on Saturday by running personal bests were the following:

Jane Cant (30:46) – The lack of apostrophe in Cant is driving me nuts!
Louise Taylor (27:52)
Captain Torsten Roesler (18:07)
Julie Sutton (30:19)
James Taylor (18:51)
Lennie Watson (44:41)
Ian Naisbitt (20:48)

Great effort!

Coventry parkrun

Coventry saw 770 runners on Saturday.  One of whom was Ian Maidment. He ran 27:07.

Sherwood Pines parkrun

Craig Campbell donned his green tights and went looking for merry men in Sherwood forest. He ran 22:34. No word on if he escaped the clutches of the Sheriff of Nottingham though.
