Weekend Recap: No Roman, No Cry

, ,

Not the Roman IX: Here at K&D HQ we’re always fans of silliness so, with a new finish, we applaud the rebrand of the Roman XI, to the Not the Roman IX and now in 2020 the Not the Not the Roman IX. *Applause* Well done Stratford AC.

12km of undulation for six of K&D’s finest women. Jenny Coulstock made mincemeat of the distance running a super 1:04:56. Lorna Davies (1:10) held off a brave challenge from Linda Whitehead (1:12) and Claire Maggs (1:12). Tracy Davies (1:14) and Susan Wassell (1:14) rounded out the charge.

Brueton parkrun:
With The National Running Show swelling Brueton’s numbers to a near record breaking 725 runners it was a busy old path, making it difficult to run fast…. in theory. That didn’t stop Gareth Wainwright equalling his PB with a superb 16:32.He just needs to run faster to go under 16:30. He can have that tip for free. Gareth was swiftly followed by youngster George de Bolla in 17:19 and Habib Farazmand in 17:36. Four K&D men ran sub-18. Snazzy.

The show was stolen though by Kerry Ann Thompson who continued to close the gap on our top women by running sub-21 again, this time going to an all time best in 20:37. Kerry worked back slowly and sensibly from injury and is flying now. Speaking of working their way back, Rosie Marsh cruised under 21 minutes with a 20:51. Rosie is back within 60 seconds of her best. And rounding out the show was Adeba Jama, another of our XC stars who continue to benefit from a winter on the grass. Adeba smashed her PB by running 22:44 – a 38 second improvement on her PB. Basically the ladies are bossing it.

Coventry parkrun:
Steve Marks enjoyed a spot of local tourism at the weekend as he joine a huge 916 runners at Coventry. Steve ran 34:50 for 710th place

Torbay Velo parkrun:
Richard Beale makes an appearance at the home of K&D’s Devon expat David John. Beale ran 20:08 on the quick course, he was followed by David in 29:23. David John left his parkrun top in Solihull last time he was here. Damn. Could have got it sent down and saved on postage.

Arrow Valley parkrun:
Kerry Whitehill and Carly Mitchell teamed up to show Redditch how K&D do it. The dynamic duo ran 26:46 and 31:05

Conkers parkrun:
Avoiding the masses in Solihull, Bonkers at Conkers was the order of the day. Kev Tomkinson ran 30:00. On the nose. Noice. Alison Giblin couldn’t quite get it on the nose, dipping under 35 in 34:56

Babbs Mill parkrun:
A record for the home of Centurions with a mahoosive 344 runner. It’s almost like there was some sort of big event locally for runners. Caroline Park ran the numerically pleasing 22:22. If we ran 5k round Caroline could we get a Caroline Park parkrun?

Warwick Racecourse parkrun:
Lloyd Barton took first for K&D in 20:32 but it was the rare appearance of Emma Horsefield at a parkrun that made the headlines. Running 20:54 to show she’s still in fine fettle. Emma and Matt, both attended the Racecourse parkrun. Matt ran 21:14. There’s something fundamentally pleasing about the Horsefields being at a Horse racing venue. The sign of a stable relationship? No nagging I hope. Did they take their neigh-bours? Was it an on the hoof decision? Will this be their mane parkrun? Wonder who ponied up for brunch? Emma took it by a nose in the final furlong. Pete Makepeace ran 28:12. Sorry you had to read all those puns before your result Pete. Maybe put you blinkers on?

Oaklands parkrun:
Jon Beech ran 24:12. I’m all punned out, otherwise i’d make some Beech/Oak joke. But I need to recharge the Pun-O-Maker 2000. Sorry Jon.
