Weekend Recap: NY, Centurions, Takeover Weekend

Firstly thank you to everyone who helped at the K&D Takeover day. So many people pitched in that the day ran brilliantly despite the downpour. Cake was bountiful and you turned out in your droves.

New York Marathon

Big congrats to John Garside, Monica Green and Jude Mansfield who all ran the New York Marathon. Ticking off a bucket list race and a half in an electric atmosphere after Shalane Flannagan became the first USA women’s winner in 40 years.

Our own stars ran…

John Garside – 3:47:56
Monica Green – 4:18:02
Jude Mansfield – 4:18:03

A big word too for Kathy Bailey. While nursing injuries that kept her out of the big day we’re very proud of the support and captain’s spirit she has shown over the last few months. An absolute credit to herself and the club.

K&D were delighted to see Kathy get a 5k run in on her trip. You can’t keep our good Kathy down! A reminder for us to all #BeMoreKathy

Centurions GP #1

Blimey. Is it really that time of year again? With building work on Babbs Mill meaning a longer walk to the start and a narrow first mile it meant getting out hard and early to secure a decent position in the field. A great K&D turn out saw Chris Sharp, Rosie Marsh, Louise Bell, Paul Williams and Mary Heald all pick up overall or age group podium prizes.

The full results were:

Chris Sharp –  26:37 (PB)

Brueton parkrun:

A wonderful takeover with so many K&D you couldn’t swing a cat without hitting one!

It was Sharp up front as resident showpony Chris Sharp finised 2nd overall in 16:27 as part of his weekend double. Gareth Wainwright and Darren John made the top 3 K&D’ers with 17:16 and 17:52 respectively. Not far behind was Jane Evans who is continuing her brilliant run of form with an 18:07. She’s now only 3 off the overall gender 1st place record of 50 parkrun ‘wins’. The men’s record of 50 (Pete Brookes) is under threat by the women as Jane closes in. Mary Heald ran a swift 21:12 and was joined by Sarah Connors in 24:29 on the K&D podium.

There were K&D PB’s for Janet Cant (28:05), Greg Turner (19:43) and Sian Davies (29:56). Thank you to everyone for volunteering, running, supporting and generally being awesome club mates!  Congrats to Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell too who clocked up her 25 volunteer club membership – earning a nice purple tshirt in the process.

Bideford parkrun:

Peter Harvey, making Bideford his new local (*sad face*) clocked a 27:14.

Tampere parkrun:

Fellow K&D ex-pat Riina Kuuselo tan 21:24 in Finland.
