ETU Triathlon European Champs:

Congratulations to Jack Bristow who this weekend became the European Age Group champion in the ETU Triathlon 20-24 Age Group Champs.  Held in Estonia the champs bring together elite and age group competitors from across Europe. Going in to the champs wanting a spot on the podium Jack excelled to take 1st place. From joining the club in 2017 as Dorridge Fun Run’s 1st non-affiliated local… while we’d like to take all the credit for his progress Jack’s a superb athlete who’s been a credit to the club in his time with us so far.

Top swim, bike, running from Jack following on from Keith Whitehead and Ellaine Callinan’s age-group tri-exploits.

Brueton parkrun:

A FAST bloke ran Brueton in 15:30 ish on Saturday. But didn’t bring his barcode. Rookie error. Gareth Wainwright didn’t forget his as he ran 17:16. Behind him Rob Michaelson-Yeates clocked 18:26 and Jane Evans split the blokes with an 18:46. Paul Bentley was third man in 18:57. With a 23:17 Jane Hunt was second K&D woman followed by Sarah Cattell in 25:14.

Conkers parkrun:

A pre-Thunder Run jaunt out for Darren John and Kate Marsh. Both ran 32:01 taking it easy before their 50km each of trail running later in the day.

Swindon parkrun:
Swin-DONE as Lissy Calvert ticked off another parkrun on her list.  Lissy ran 29:58.

Arrow Valley parkrun:

A Bentley, an Aston and a Park. Simon Bentley took advantage of good weather and the undulating course to run a 17:44 while Rachel Aston clocked 25:52. Newbie Caroline Park put down a 23:52. Welcome to the club Caroline!

Cannon Hill parkrun:
Keith Whitehead took the short jaunt over to Cannon Hill to pop down a 26:08.

Medina I.O.W:
Kevin Tomkinson continued his quest to do every parkrun in the world with a 28:39. No word if he visited Black Gang Chine after.

Lanhydrock parkrun:
O’Donnell 1 and 2 made a jaunt to Lanhydrock parkrun over the weekend. Paul ran 25:14 while Siobhan registered 36:43.

Tampere parkrun:
Friend of the clun Riina Kuuselo ran 20:08 in Finland. More like FASTland.

Heartlands parkrun:
Nope. Not one round the hospital in Birmingham. Actually to be found in Pool, Redruth. Steve Marks ran 35:02.

Comrades Marathon:

Iconic. One of the greatest foot races in the world. The 90km Comrades Marathon is one of the ultimate bucket list events. It’s defeated many great athletes over the year. Not K&D’s finest though. On his very first attempt Max Mladenovic ran an astonishing 8:40:10.

This is a bloke who left the Arden 9 in an Ambulance a few years ago!  Astonishing recovery and an inspiration.

From first timers to men who make Comrades a casual weekend at home. Kevin Boake finished what we estimate to be his 347th Comrades. Kev ran 9:47:10. Kev’s consistency over the years at Comrades has been superb and verging on super human.

Race to the Tower:

Another of our team Chris Thorley aced the 2018 edition of Race to the Tower.  Chris finished up in 7th place. 52 miles in 9.5 hours with almost 8000ft of climb in some serious heat in the afternoon. A superb effort for Thorley!

Brueton parkrun:

Darren John took K&D’s first spot on Saturday. Leading for 2/3rd but fading to finish just behind BRAT’s John Jennings, Darren had to settle for 17:57 and a day in bed feeling rough. Chris Morgan forgot his barcorde so 2nd place goes to Paul Bentley in 18:52 and 3rd is awarded to Paul Williams in 18:59.

K&D Women were led by Flick Sharp who’s 21:42 took the honours. Mary Heald managed a 22:51 with a buggy while Louise Bell’s 23:16 means you could throw a blanket over our first three. There’s probably a spare one in Mary’s buggy.

PB’s Galore on Saturday for our runners as good conditions and a good block of racing is paying off. So here we go…

Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell put her sub-2 half speed into practice over 5k and came away with a new PB of 25:36. Did she mention she PB’d recently? 🙂

Smita Deshpande smited personal best with a new clocking of 27:26.

Lindsay Dalby enjoyed a smooth new PB of 24:33.

On parkrun number 305 Kevin Tomkinson rocked a 23:51.

Nick Burke made another appearance in this column dropping his PB to 24:00. Massive improvement.

Kelly Cridland lowered her PB to 30:30.

Richard Orriel dipped under 22 with a snazzy 21:57.

Blimey!

Conkers parkrun:

Steve Armstrong visited the lovely Conkers parkrun; Steve clocked a rather spicy 22:55.

Stratford Summer Six:

WRRL Action took place over the weekend and despite showers that drenched runners the throngs of K&D splashed their way to success.  Amanda O’Leary and Jane Hunt both took brilliant age-category wins.

Congratulations to Chris Sharp who celebrated the news that Flick is expecting their second child with a strong run to finish 6th overall and first K&D Man (32:11). He was followed by Chris Morgan who continued his good form with a 12th overall (34:06) and Men’s Captain Torsten Roesler who nipped into the top-30 finishing 29th (36:17).

Rosie Marsh (41:01) continued her brilliant run of form this summer by finishing 7th Female overall and, most importantly, that K&D first woman crown. She just pipped Amanda O’Leary (41:27). It’s great to see Amanda back and running strongly.  Jane Hunt took third K&D Woman (45:17) to go with her age-category win.

Brueton parkrun

Gareth Wainwright was the meat in a BRAT sandwich in the Brueton top-3 on Saturday. He ran 17:12 to split up the two BRAT invaders and stake K&D colours on the podium. With many of our runners doing the Summer 6 on Saturday evening our numbers were down but Paul Williams did the Summer Six/parkrun double finishing second K&D man in 19:07 (and a new PB! Clearly taking it easy for the Summer 6 Paul?). Third K&D man was Gareth’s brother Ainsley (19:31) who recently joined the club. A little sibling rivalry to spice up the coming years!

Mary Heald continued her run of great form by improving her PB once again. Dropping her PB to 20:15 Mary edged closer to a sub 20 minute time and finished first K&D woman. Rachel Aston took the honours for second woman in 23:53 just pipping Sarah Cattell who crossed the line in 24:03.

There were excellent PB’s this week for Paul Williams (19:07), Mary Heald (20:15) and Gail Partridge (32:19) who has continued her great improvements recently. Congratulations to those three musketeers and their weekend success.

Conkers parkrun

Getting up early on Saturday before their 24 hours relay race in teams of five three of K&D’s silliest members headed over to the beautiful Conkers parkrun. Phillip Lindsey finished first (30:16), Kate Marsh second (30:17) and Darren John third (30:17) as all three enjoyed gentle pre-Thunder Run run to stretch the legs. Congratulations to Philip and Kate who both put up with a grumpy Darren moaning about how this ruined his streak of sub-18’s at parkrun. They were both very patient with him!

Cheltenham parkrun

Cheltenham were blessed with a visit on Saturday by Anne Gay who ran 36:23.

Penrose parkrun

Steve Marks popped up in Penrose to run 34:16

Great running team!
