21.09.2013. That was the last parkrun PB for Pete Makepeace. Like the Olympic veteran going into the games, some said that the whippersnappers would seize the limelight. Others said that Bernard Lagat qualifying for Rio at 41 was the feel good story of the 5000m this summer. But Makepeace stormed round Brueton parkrun this Saturday to silence the billions watching at home. Delivering his own Super Saturday to eclipse that night in London in 2012 he delivered a stunning 19:26. In doing so he destroyed his PB by 20 seconds.
