National XC Relays, Berry Hill, Mansfield

Blog, News

Four brave K&D runners broke new ground as we sent a team to the National Cross Country Championships for the first time. At their spiritual home of Berry Hill Park in Mansfield, Dave Carbutt, Greg Turner, Phil Wood and Rob Michaelson-Yeates rocked up and places a more than respectable 93rd out of 161 teams (190 if you include Incomplete teams of 3 or less runners).

Big Dave took the team out in an excellent 19:34, followed by Greg Turner in 21:36, Phil Wood in 24:44 and Rob Michaelson-Yeates in 19:24. Superb running, especially from Dave C who ran Rob Michaelson-Yeates close for fastest leg of the day.

K&D National XC Champs Day Trip – Sat 23rd Feb 2019

Blog, News

Once every three years the National XC Champs are held in the part of the country known as ‘The North’. Wherever that is. Therefore the K&D Committee have approved the subsidising of a trip to Harewood House in Leeds for ‘The National’.

The National is the greatest race in the UK running calendar. More than 10,000 over the day running XC. Men’s and women’s races with 1500+ competitors. From Olympic Finalists to 80 year old perenials. It’s the elite and club runners of all standards. A bucket list race steeped in history.

If more than we can accomodate on the coach apply what happens?

Men and Women’s Team Captains will pick their best teams of 7. Any spare seats will then be allocated first to those who have ran XC this season. Any remaining seats will then be drawn at random.

IF you aren’t able to join us on the coach we will still pay your entry fee should you want to travel by car on your own or with others.

How do I apply?

http://knowleanddorridgerunningclub.org.uk/product/national2018/

Note: While the club are subsidising the trip for runners we will ask for a £10 contribution to secure your place once confirmed. Coach hire is £500+ so we would kindly ask for the deposit to offset a small portion of the post and confirm your intention to run. £10 for travel to Leeds, race entry and travel home. Bargain.

Warwickshire County XC Champs – Jan 5th (Deadline 13th Dec)

Blog, News

Warwickshire County Cross Country Championship entries are now being taken by K&D for the 5th Jan in Leamington (HMPSC, Newbold Revel).

Men let Torsten know at torsten_roesler@hotmail.com
Women let Rosie know at rosiegmarsh@googlemail.com

Both Men and Women have opportunities to challenge for medals for the first time if we can get full teams out.

Remember: The club pays for all XC entries on your behalf. All we ask is if you put your name down that you participate (injury, illness etc. do happen though so it’s ok if you then can’t compete for a valid reason)

The County, Midlands and National Champs are suitable for ALL abilities and a vital part of winter training. If you want a parkrun PB or a good spring best over 5, 10, half or marathon distances, then cross country should be a key part of your next few months.

The Club pays entry fee for ALL XC races for you.
League race entry is done by squad, just speak to your Team Captains (Torsten Roesler, Rosie Marsh) or Vice-Captains (Chris Sharp, Emma Horsefield) and they’ll put your name down.

Entry for Warwickshire, Midlands and National Champs is done through the club. We’ll ask you to email your intention to run soon.

XC is suitable for all abilities (even more so with the men back in Div. 2 this year). This includes the National Champs which is an iconic race, but welcoming to all standards. A bucket list race. For the first time this year we’ll be looking to fill mini-bus or coach and encourage lots of you to join in a club jolly to Leeds for the day.

Last year was our most successful year ever for our women, while our men fought bravely in a very competitive Div. 1.  We travel as a team. We rally round the club flag. We get muddy and have a lot of fun and cake. Ask Greg, and Jack how it improves your running too…. Both competed regularly and made massive leaps through the winter.

Women’s XC Results

Blog, News

Our Ladies capped a glorious cross country season by putting in another excellent performance at Wolverhampton last Saturday.

Rosie Marsh deputised for as women’s no.1 by finishing a superb 15th in the ladies Division 2 race. Showing her natural flair for the mud. Behind her was the outstanding Monica Green who finished a superb 23rd overall. Not bad at all! With Rosie and Monica leading the way the rest of the team danced across the mud. Elaine Callinan came home in 79th, Jude Mansfield was 87th and debutant Amanda Crees loved the mud finishing in 163rd.

Our ladies finished a brilliant 6th overall. Possibly our best ever result (I haven’t checked yet). Our Masters team finished 7th. Congratulations to all our women who competed. It has been a watershed season for our Women’s team on the mud and it’s been brilliant to see Jane winning, Rosie developing, regulars like Monica improving and newbies like Amanda loving their introductions to the joy of XC!

Midlands XC Championship Results

Blog, News

Midland XC Champs – Wollaton Hall

6 of K&D’s men turned out at the wonderful Wollaton Hall for the Midlands XC. 12km, 12 BIG hills, Bogs and a stately home played host. Mixed fortunes befell the team. Chairman Darren ran well for 6km before major stomach gremlins left him having to jog/walk most of the way home. Despite dropping 67 places between 8k and 12k due to his issues he finished in 169th – he PR’d to the portaloo though.

Behind him the team dug in and ran tightly. Men’s Captain Torsten made a return from injury, Pete did the driving, Greg made us feel old and Max got stuck in before our National XC day trip in February. The team finished in 26th overall out of 38 teams. A decent return for the K&D gents among the 473 finishers.

Full Results:

Darren John – 52:46 – 169th
David Carbutt – 53:00 – 177th
Torsten Roesler – 54:24 – 206th
Greg Turner – 55:49 – 233rd
Peter Austin – 57:15 -266th
Max Gimson – 59:31 – 317th

Blog, News

It’s here! The Mud. The Blood. The Guts. The Glory.

Men’s XC Details: Fixture 1 – Pittville Park, Cheltenham, GL50 4RN

We Need A Volunteer – all you have to do is come along, enjoy the day and probably help people go through the finish funnel. Without a volunteer we lose 200 points – That could be enough to relegate us at the end of the year.  Please let Darren or Torsten know if you are willing to help the club (anyone can volunteer – no need to be a club member)

When: We are meeting at The Drum and Monkey (177 Four Ashes Rd, Dorridge, Solihull B93 8ND) at midday. We will leave in a convoy at 12:15pm on the dot. Don’t be late. Please let Darren or Torsten know if you are coming in the convoy.

If you are making your own way there you’ll find all details for getting there and parking here:

Fixture 1 Race Details

Race Starts at 2:30pm

We’ll return to the Drum and Monkey and have a drink after to celebrate another great XC race! Like victorious Vikings who’ve conquered Cheltenham.

Cross Country Season – When, Where, Why?

Blog, News

It’s almost time for Cross Country season again. Can you smell the mud yet? Ready to ruin another dozen socks? But don’t forget for decades Cross Country has been the back bone in building champions and making stronger athletes.

Training: Every Saturday, Cofton Park with Coach Colin overseeing sessions from 8:30am. Meet in the car park.

Running:

We encourage all standards and abilities to run cross country. Everyone comes out a better runner after a good cross country season. Men – we’ll be honest, it’s tough in Division One; if you don’t mind getting a bit of a battering by 18 year old internationals it’s massively beneficial to your running (though your pride needs to be prepped!). Ladies – things are a little less cut throat and more accessible for all levels.

Watch out for messages from your team captains Kathy Bailey and Torsten Roesler calling for you to declare your intention to run.

Our men’s and women’s teams are looking stronger than they ever have so we’re ready to embrace this season!
