Tracy Davies rounds up the graduation with a difference for our K&D 0-3 class of 2018:

“For the 1st time since we started our running challenge, parkrun was cancelled due to ice on the course. After turning out in the freezing rain we made a decision for those who wanted to run at there own risk, they would complete the 5k course without an official time. The enthusiasm was unanimous and off they set most running without stopping which was a first after 5 weeks of run walk sessions. To celebrate the achievement there was a warm drink, cake and a medal. All the leaders would like to say a massive well done to everyone, those who took part Saturday and also those who are still to complete the course due to injury or illness, just making that decision to start running can be life changing and Thank you to JC Trophies Ltd UK for supplying the medals.”

As chair of K&D i’d like to congratulate our class of 2018. Tracy and the other run leaders speak very highly of how hard you’ve worked and you’ve braved some rotten weather! I hope to see you all at parkrun next weekend where there will be high fives for the delayed breaking of the parkrun duck! (No real-life ducks will be harmed in the breaking despite the phrases’ implications.)

Many of our members have now graduated through the last few years of our 0-3 programme and everyone at K&D hopes that this is the beginning of a great running journey for you. As someone who started with the NHS couch to 5k myself in Jan 2014 I know that running can have an amazing impact on your life. I hope you go on to achieve a great deal and, most importantly of course, continue to enjoy your running with friends.

The toughest step in any journey is the first. Feeling of anxiety and nervousness are something we have all felt before our first parkrun. It was wonderful to see Geoff and his 0-3 team stepping out for their graduation on Saturday. The weather was atrocious. Cold and snowy but everyone braved the elements to take part in what is a massive personal achievement. K&D hope it is the first in a long line of personal bests, achievements and running buddies for all our 0-3 graduates!

Once again thanks goes to all the run leaders that helped out since Christmas. It couldn’t be done without your support.

With the final XC race of the season in the afternoon it was Rob Ambrose who led the team over the line at Brueton. Rob ran 18:24 to take 4th place at parkrun. Andrew Cox was second home in 21:11 and Mike Durkin followed close behind in 21:33.

Monica Green took first for the ladies in 23:57, just ahead of Sarah Cattell in 24:12 and Kerry Whitehill in 25:36.

Knowle & Dorridge Running Club will be running our successful 0-3 Mile Beginners Course again in January 2017. Applications are now being taken.

Led by a Run England qualified instructor (Geoff Lewis) you will be guided from your first steps all the way through to your graduation: a full 5k at Brueton parkrun in Feb 2017. Many former ‘non-runners’ are now valued club members; running everything up to and including half-marathons. See below for full details:

They say number 13 is unlucky for some;

But not for those medal craving naughties who completed the Tissington Trail Half-marathon in October 2016.  It was a first for many of us and needless to say we experienced a few close calls along the way.

It all sounded very simple; especially when we were busy Christmas shopping and neatly submitting our race applications at the end of 2015. We gave the training plan that Tracy had supplied for us a cursory glance and neatly filed it away. So, June 2016  arrives quicker than we could have realised and it’s time to start “the plan”.  Just how difficult could it be to run 4 x parkruns or 2 x 10k? Well here are some of the challenges we faced aside from the actual running! In at no 1…
