Round Sheffield Run:

Brummies on Tour as Jude, Kathy and Elaine took on the Round Sheffield Run. A multistage trail run that can be ran solo or in teams. Don’t be fooled by the sparkly skirts; our ladies are tough as Sheffield Steel. Elaine Callinan ran solo, clocking the 13ish miles in 01:53:49. Taking on some epic hills. Jude and Kathy tag teamed up like WWE Tag Team Champinos. Jude and Kathy ran a combined time of 01:54:56. Well done you three!

Torbay Half: Scorchio. With Hills and Heat we saw a roasting Sunday morning race along the sea-front in Torbay. Darren John and Kate Marsh took the chance to treat the morning as a good training run. Darren with a dodgy right calf ran a solid 1:22:57 Tempo run while Kate Marsh enjoyed a leisurely 2:10:04. Both used lots of suntan lotion and avoided burning or being clattered by seagulls on the rampage.

Brueton parkrun:

Chris Morgan lay down a fast parkrun on Saturday morning clocking a storming 17:06.  Gareth Wainwright who missed Arden 9 with a tight hamstring showed he’s none the worse off with a 17:18. Third K&D was Darren John in 18:15 who had to stop and do his shoe laces up half-way round. Anyone got any velco running shoes?

Monica Green was first lady overall at Brueton with a strong 20:50. Superb running from MG. Monica was 2 seconds ahead of Flick Sharp who clocked 20:52. Her fastest in 2018. Mary Heald ran 22:23, which means you’d have had to be very quick to be on our women’s podium this week!

Robert Mundy PB’d with a superb 19:21. Robert has only done 6 parkrun’s since 2014. Rare like Unicorn Eggs. Excellent PB though!

Cannock Chase parkrun:

Kevin Tomkinson ticked off another parkrun with a 26:01, putting the Chase into Cannock.

Arrow Valley parkrun:

Richard Dixon enjoyed the cool shade of Arrow Valley’s lakeside setting with an 18:49.

Cannon Hill parkrun:

A food festival caused a re-routing of the Cannon Hill parkrun in Birmingham. Mmm Food. Phil Wood embraced the change and ran 25:28. No word on how much food he ate after…

Newport parkrun:

The Whiteheads on Tour; Keith and Linda took in Newport, Wales running 24:59 and 30:27 respectively.

Barstaple parkrun:
Subhash Agarwalla had a barnstorming run in Barnstaple. He ran the numerically lovely 26:26.

Witton parkrun:

Lissy Calvert got a bit lost on her way to Perry Hall parkrun, ending up in Witton, Blackburn instead of Witton, Birmingham. She did at least get to tick off another parkrun in 32:12.

Dolgellau parkrun:

Greg Turner was allowed over the boarder into Wales. Surprising. We thought he was still Asbo’ed from Wales. 20:06 before he made a quick exit.

Stratford-upon-Avon parkrun:

Richard Orriel continued his impressive form over the last few weeks by running 21:18 on the beautiful Stratford course.

Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun:

Rob Ambrose found himself at the end of the country. In Portsmouth he took on the lakeside course and ran sub 20 in 19:53.

Witney (Houston) parkrun:

And IIIIIIIII will allllllways run you…

John Garside ran 23:31 to complete Witney (Houston) parkrun in Oxfordshire.

Worcester 10k:

Dozens of K&D’s finest members turned out in Worcester over the weekend. As well as being huge fans of the sauce with their cheese on toast they represented the club in the finest of fashions at the Worcester 10k.

Kay Adenipekun took the Golden Knowle as our first man home finishing in 49:33. For the women one Golden Dorridge was well earned by Claire Maggs who was first K&D lady across the line in 55:48 – but also by Elizabeth Williams who ran 55:44 to just take the title on chip…. Untile Jan Hornby did exactly the same thing to Claire and Liz! Jan ran 55:42 on the chip. Stonking! Sod it. Trophies all round.

Full Results:
Kay Adenipekun – 49:33
Chris Taylor – 52:43

Sarah Church – 1:16:46
Wendy Holt – 1:25:40

Special congratulations to Sarah and Wendy who made their debut’s at 10k! Always a massive achievement.

Worcester Half:

Darryl Wilkes took the longer of two options in booking himself onto the Worcester Half instead of the 10k. His time was a very respectable 1:50:34. Just reward for being on his lonesome!

Balsall Common Fun Run

A team victory for our K&D Guys in the Balsall Common RC back yard. Careful now ladies, It’s like Take That in their prime. Chris Thorley took the overall win in 37:39. Rob Houlston was in 8th timed at 40:54, Russell Davies 9th running 41:24 and Richard Beale rounded out the team in 42:30 and securing the title of overall knobbly knees winners 2017.

Brueton parkrun:

In perfect parkrun conditions Gareth Wainwright snipped under the 17:00 barrier with a 16:56. Just behind him Darren John equalled his Brueton PB, missing out on an all-time parkrun pb by just 2 seconds. 17:15 the unlucky number for him. Behind them, and ahead of Rugby 10 Mile on Sunday Paul Williams ran 19:41 – being chased down by Ed Long of the club.

Our women were just as competitive with Siobhan Cotter finishing 2nd lady overall in 22:25 followed by Louise Bell in 23:57 and Kate Marsh in 24:58 on her 99th parkrun. There was a PB for Smita Deshpande in 28:21 too. Congratulations!

And a special welcome back to Steve Evans who did his first parkrun since falling off Snowdon and giving us all a scare and a laugh. Mostly in that order.

Wythall parkrun:
Wythall celebrated its inagrual parkrun. A Three lapper it adds to the local parkrun lanscape. Three of our troops inspected the course with Paul Stead setting the initial K&D Course Record in 21:55 (The full course record after 1 week stands at a tempting 18:16). Gary Welsh ran close to Paul in 23:01 with Keith Whitehead only a smidge behind in 24:45.

Long Eaton parkrun:
Why did Chris Quarmby feel ill after his parkrun? He’d not Long Eaton… here all week folks. Chris ran 26:00 and his delightful other half Jane Quarmby ran 30:31.

Maybe he ate too much Quarmb-eef? Corn Beef? Geddit?

Dolgellau parkrun

What is it with K&D runners and Dolgellau? Did I miss the memo? Greg Turner missed 2 months travelling, then he’s off again. Fair enough. 21:52.

SBU35

The St. Begas Ultra played host to not one but two Maggs this weekend as Claire Maggs took her first steps into the world of Ultra’s alongside her partner-in-crime Darren Maggs. The two of them tackled the St. Begas Ultra – a 35(ish) mile race through the Lake District.

We finished it in 10hrs 47 mins and the weather was kind to us. What an experience and the views were the best ever. Ran with Darren and he beat his time from last year. Got lost 3 times and stopped for a cuppa at all 3 checkpoints. Would recommend. Cxxx

We’re assuming the magnificent views were of the beautiful scenery and not Darren Magg’s backside.  Congrats to Claire for dragging Darren through to a PB. It’s nice when the more able runners can help others achieve better performances….

Congrats to you both on a great run.

Severn Bridge Half Marathon

Gary Wickett continued his fundraising for Meningitis Now by tackling the Severn Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday. His 2:01:16 continues his run of tackling 52 major events this year.

Brueton parkrun

With Bank Holidays comes much changed club results from parkruns as people go here, there and everywhere. At Brueton Joe Read finished top K&D man in 17:06, he led home old hat Chris Morgan (17:32) and Triathlete Mudblood Jack Bristow (17:56). Our K&D men are looking strong as we approach the autumn half and marathon season.

Our women scattered across the country on Saturday with a number running elsewhere, so it was Mary Heald who took it easy (by her own high standards), and finished first K&D woman in 26:45. The best part of the scattering of K&D runners to other parkrun’s is that it lets us shine the spotlight on some other runners who don’t always get a mention here. Elizabeth Williams took the number 2 spot at Brueton on Saturday for the first time with a 28:42. Well done Liz! Sarah Cattell then just pipped Linda Whitehead (28:46 to 28:53) for third.

A warm welcome to Richard Orriel who has recently joined the club and made his official K&D Brueton debut this weekend. PB’s fell in the sun for Carla Watson (32:34) and Elizabeth Williams (28:42) and Baldev Korotania (29:04). Well done team!

Arrow Valley parkrun

Richard Dixon represented the green and gold with distinction at Arrow Valley on Saturday crossing the line in 18:46.

Cannon Hill parkrun

Darren John was running PB pace and moved into 4th position, before he lost concentration and tried to go the wrong way at Cannon Hill with 1km to go (And you let him run the club!?). He still managed a 17:26 though. Kate Marsh ran 25:59 taking it easy with her first twenty mile training run following on the Sunday.

Huddersfield parkrun

Amanda Crees found herseld up’t north this weekend and in doing so clocked 29:05

Winchester parkrun

Other end of the country and down on the south coast Chris Revell made the most of being closer to the equator and in the sun ran 19:34

Swansea Bay

Crossing the boarder now (will they let him come back over? Who knows!) and Paul Stead ran 26:04. Well done Llad.

Dolgellau parkrun

Lynsey Drakeley ran 30:51 in the north-west of Wales. We hope Dolgellau has a Jamie’s Italian to keep Richard happy.

Thorpe Park Half

Steven Mcdonald enjoyed a rollercoaster run at the first ever Thorpe Park Half. The race, won by Team GB’s Andy Vernon in 65:26, saw Steve run 1:34:10. That currently places him top of the current men’s rankings for 2017; he takes that crown from Chris Hogg. It’s like Game of Thrones basically. With the Half marathon’s coming thick and fast over the next few weeks expect plenty of challenegers to the throne.

Brueton parkrun:

With club runners up and down England, Scotland and Wales donning spikes this wekend the parkrun’s were a little sparse on the club fronts.

The ladies of K&D took full advantage of a little more elbow room to records several personal bests. Sarah Church (37:44), Jenny Owen (25:50) and Sally Anderson (25:58) all bettered their previous fastest 5k times.

The men didn’t PB but they did record 1st and 2nd place overall with Gareth Wainwright running 17:25 and Chris Morgan, who later put in a sterling performance as National Cross Country Team Assistant Coach/Photographer/Kit Guard, clocking 17:43. Russell Davies rounded out the top-3 running 20:07.
