Ryton Pool 5 Results

The Warwickshire Road Race League swung back into action at the Ryton Pool 5 on Thursday 26th May.

What’s the name for a large collective of K&D Runners? A Swarm? A Gaggle? A Herd?

A Charm (Goldfinches) of K&D runners turned up, slightly disappointed the miniature railway wasn’t running, but buoyed by the knowledge that hotdogs were on offer after the race.  The race was started by Basil Heatley who was a pretty decent runner in his heyday (Silver Medal 1964 Tokyo Olympics / Marathon World Record Holder (2:13 in 1964) / 1961 World Cross Country Champion). He can’t work a hooter though leading to a little bit of confusion at the start.

In hot conditions on chalk path the race took off at a rapid pace, kicking up a dust cloud. Across K&D’s runners there were the usual outstanding performances.

On the Men’s side Kirk Giles (29:20) and Tim Price (29:28) finished 14th and 15th respectively, Darren John was third man home (30:26) in 27th.

On the Women’s team Flick Sharp was the first home (35:56) in 117th. Followed swiftly by Monica Green (36:15) in 124th and Jane Hunt (37:39) in 151st.
