Somehow it is April and the WRRL has kicked off again. It was only January last week wasn’t it? When did THAT happen?

Despite a week of manky weather the Easter Bunny was kind to the K&D Massive on Sunday 1st April. Easter and April Fools Day. But K&D were in no mood for joking around as winter training was put behind our athletes with a slew of PB’s and great season openers.

Chris Sharp took a comfortable second place overall while Rosie Marsh PB’d and took home the senior women’s trophy.

Emma Lowe’s other half provided a  whole load of fantastic photo’s that can be found here:

Here is all your weekends non-WRRL related red-hot action:

Boston Marathon:

With an injury hit build up and late fitness tests leaving his participation in doubt right up until the pre-race period Chris Sharp turned difficulties into longer-term positives with a brave, brave run in Boston. Chris attacked the first half of the race in 1:20:31 and despite a difficult second half still managed a sub-3 run. Finishing in 2:58:44. While he’ll no doubt feel mixed emotions in the immediate aftermath to run sub-3 in such trying circumstances show’s his qualities as a runner.  Hopefully the Sharp’s enjoy the rest of their time in Boston and congrats on racing one of the most storied races in running.

Take some time to rest the legs and recover and the show pony legs will be back up to full speed soon enough! Success in a marathon isn’t always measured in finish time alone. Success can be found in the journey and overcoming obstacles and Chris showed that in bucket loads.

Lydney parkrun

You have to feel a bit for the poor woman who previously held the Lydney parkrun female course record. Jane Evans turned up on Saturday and was in the mood for breaking records. Bettering the previous course best by a woman by one minute and seventeen seconds Jane Evans took the course record down in fine fashion. Jane ran 18:01. and finished 2nd overall at Lydney. The only runner in front of her had to run a massive PB just to nudge ahead.  Read more

Be gone you foul running tights. This is shorts weather! With the weekend hitting Ibiza like temperatures the racing was equally sizzling.

Dungloe parkrun:

In between checking in at multiple purveyors of wine, prosecco and bar-based food stuffs our ladies took themselves to the beautiful surroundings of County Donegal and Dungloe parkrun.

Their green and gold vests were very welcome in the Emerald Isle. A coincidental yet fitting colour scheme. Be in no doubt though… in between the fun and frolicking there was (some) serious business at hand.

First home was Sally Anderson. Sally ran an all-time PB of 25:00. Clearly Ireland suits her.

Full results were:

Sally Anderson – 25:00
Lorna Davies – 26:12
Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell – 26:58
Jackie Paterson – 27:27
Susan Wassell – 28:01
Claire Maggs – 28:09
Linda Whitehead – 28:56
Claire Deeley – 30:32
Tracy Davies – 30:32 Read more
