ETU Triathlon European Champs:

Congratulations to Jack Bristow who this weekend became the European Age Group champion in the ETU Triathlon 20-24 Age Group Champs.  Held in Estonia the champs bring together elite and age group competitors from across Europe. Going in to the champs wanting a spot on the podium Jack excelled to take 1st place. From joining the club in 2017 as Dorridge Fun Run’s 1st non-affiliated local… while we’d like to take all the credit for his progress Jack’s a superb athlete who’s been a credit to the club in his time with us so far.

Top swim, bike, running from Jack following on from Keith Whitehead and Ellaine Callinan’s age-group tri-exploits.

Brueton parkrun:

A FAST bloke ran Brueton in 15:30 ish on Saturday. But didn’t bring his barcode. Rookie error. Gareth Wainwright didn’t forget his as he ran 17:16. Behind him Rob Michaelson-Yeates clocked 18:26 and Jane Evans split the blokes with an 18:46. Paul Bentley was third man in 18:57. With a 23:17 Jane Hunt was second K&D woman followed by Sarah Cattell in 25:14.

Conkers parkrun:

A pre-Thunder Run jaunt out for Darren John and Kate Marsh. Both ran 32:01 taking it easy before their 50km each of trail running later in the day.

Swindon parkrun:
Swin-DONE as Lissy Calvert ticked off another parkrun on her list.  Lissy ran 29:58.

Arrow Valley parkrun:

A Bentley, an Aston and a Park. Simon Bentley took advantage of good weather and the undulating course to run a 17:44 while Rachel Aston clocked 25:52. Newbie Caroline Park put down a 23:52. Welcome to the club Caroline!

Cannon Hill parkrun:
Keith Whitehead took the short jaunt over to Cannon Hill to pop down a 26:08.

Medina I.O.W:
Kevin Tomkinson continued his quest to do every parkrun in the world with a 28:39. No word if he visited Black Gang Chine after.

Lanhydrock parkrun:
O’Donnell 1 and 2 made a jaunt to Lanhydrock parkrun over the weekend. Paul ran 25:14 while Siobhan registered 36:43.

Tampere parkrun:
Friend of the clun Riina Kuuselo ran 20:08 in Finland. More like FASTland.

Heartlands parkrun:
Nope. Not one round the hospital in Birmingham. Actually to be found in Pool, Redruth. Steve Marks ran 35:02.

Brueton parkrun: Chris Sharp’s fast feet posed a fire risk over parched grass on Saturday. His 16:50 meaning Brueton needed a fire extinguisher on hand at the finish line. Behind him Gareth Wainwright ran a swift 17:25 – doing his best to create some breeze for the other runners while Michael Swann ran 18:46 for third K&D. Swan’s can carry 4 1/2 Stone of Ice under their wings. Swan fact.

Monica Green was our first K&D woman in 20:04. Hot Stuff! Flick Sharp followed in the sweaty footprints of Chris in 21:18. Jane Hunt sped to a 23:16, avoiding Chris’ sweaty foot prints. Wise. Hunt Fact: Jane hunt’s wild Pokemon in her spare time. She has a wild Charizard head mounted on her livingroom wall.

Bushy parkrun:
Week 2 of our stealthy K&D Bushy Takeover. It will be ours. Soooon. Jan Hornby (26:55),  Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell (27:32), Katie Price (29:43) and Caroline Edwards (30:32) laid down some secondary foundations. Next come’s the turret…

Stonehouse parkrun:
The Whitehead’s visited Stonehouse. A house. Made of Stone. Who’d have thought it! Novel. Killer Keith clocked 24:25 and Lovely Linda ran 29:09. The nicknames need some work.

Kingsbury Water parkrun:
Mmm water. A scarce commodity this summer. Anthony Dutton led our tour group round in 19:51. He carried a little flag like a Japanese tour guide in London. Kay Adenipekun was next up in 24:12, Paul Winwood ran 24:39, Karen Ratcliffe ran 26:26, Lissy Calvert clocked 31:13, Penny Taylor clocked off at 31:58 while Gail Partridge fell in a lake. Actually she ran 32:32.

Perry Hall parkrun:
The quietest Birmingham parkrun is a hidden gem. Steve Armstrong rolled up like a duke and dropped a 21:03.

Stratford-Upon-Avon parkrun:
Richard attacked the fast, flat SUA parkrun with 21:04 in the shadow of the RSC.

Errdig parkrun:
Errdig is a National Trust Home, famous for its tapestries. I was excited when I heard it was famous for is pastries. I am dissapointed. Pete Austin ran 21:08. We need more pastries.

Tampere parkrun:
Friend of the club Riina Kuuselo ran 20:37. Tampere Fact: Tampere this week hosted the World U20 Champs.

Exmouth parkrun:
Steve Marks ran 33:02. Exmouth Fact: Exmouth Lifeboat Station is #16 of Things to do in Exmouth on Trip Advisor. I’m not saying it’s a naff day out but… another Exmouth Fact: Drowning is #15 of Things to do in Exmouth on Trip Advisor.

Brueton parkrun: A special day at Brueton as three stalwarts celebrated their 250th’s. Our very own Steve Armstrong celebrated 250 parkruns. Steve ran 21:54. 245 of his parkruns have been at Brueton; consistency is king!

It was a wonderful day at Brueton as local icon Margaret Smith also hit 250 parkruns and John Cooper racked up an astonishing 250 volunteers – despite never running one!

Congratulations to Sally Anderson too who made it 100 parkruns.

Gareth Wainwright was first K&Der across the line in 17:17 and chased down by Jack Bristow running a course PB in 17:25 and Chris Morgan in 17:36.

Our ladies were led by a Jingly Elf Jane Evans who’s bells musically made their way round the course in 18:53. Which explains how Santa gets so many presents delivered in one night. Jane Hunt ran 23:08 to finish behind Jane. 23:56 was quick enough for Mary who used a buggy rather than a donkey to take her little one round the course. Much quicker.

Constantia Greenbelt parkrun:

In sunny Cape Town Sarah Nolan clocked a southern hemisphere 30:41.

Tampere parkrun:

Closer to Santa’s HQ friend of the club Riina Kuuselo ran a swift 21:43. Quick enough to get a job as a Santa’s reindeer trainer.

Firstly thank you to everyone who helped at the K&D Takeover day. So many people pitched in that the day ran brilliantly despite the downpour. Cake was bountiful and you turned out in your droves.

New York Marathon

Big congrats to John Garside, Monica Green and Jude Mansfield who all ran the New York Marathon. Ticking off a bucket list race and a half in an electric atmosphere after Shalane Flannagan became the first USA women’s winner in 40 years.

Our own stars ran…

John Garside – 3:47:56
Monica Green – 4:18:02
Jude Mansfield – 4:18:03

A big word too for Kathy Bailey. While nursing injuries that kept her out of the big day we’re very proud of the support and captain’s spirit she has shown over the last few months. An absolute credit to herself and the club.

K&D were delighted to see Kathy get a 5k run in on her trip. You can’t keep our good Kathy down! A reminder for us to all #BeMoreKathy

Centurions GP #1

Blimey. Is it really that time of year again? With building work on Babbs Mill meaning a longer walk to the start and a narrow first mile it meant getting out hard and early to secure a decent position in the field. A great K&D turn out saw Chris Sharp, Rosie Marsh, Louise Bell, Paul Williams and Mary Heald all pick up overall or age group podium prizes.  Read more
