Centurions GP #2:

Results still to be confirmed due to Centurions results gopher being away yesterday. Once located and results are uploaded expect a post.

Brueton parkrun:

With cross country leaving much of K&D non-parkrunning it was left to Paul Bentley to take his moment in the spotlight. His first K&D parkrun first since joining the club recently Paul ran 18:57. He was followed by Edward Long in 19:46 and the returning to form Anthony Dutton in 19:49.

Monica Green took first place for our women in 21:16 – leaving her competitors green in envy. Bdum-tsh! In a close contest Mary Heald and Louise Bell ran 23:03 and 23:15 for second and third K&D.

Alina Awdry took her PB down to 25:24. A big congrats on your new best Alina.

Coventry parkrun:

Ian Maidment ran 26:31 to ring in December at Coventry.

Cannon Hill parkrun:

Big Dave Carbutt made use of the wide open space of Cannon Hill to stretch his legs and show us what he’s got… (oooh, matron) in 19:06.

Penallta parkrun:

Steve Marks returned to the homeland to run what we hope isn’t his Penallta-mate parkrun in 31:28.

Bideford parkrun:

Now his regular jaunt Peter Harvey clocked 28:08 at Bideford.

Firstly thank you to everyone who helped at the K&D Takeover day. So many people pitched in that the day ran brilliantly despite the downpour. Cake was bountiful and you turned out in your droves.

New York Marathon

Big congrats to John Garside, Monica Green and Jude Mansfield who all ran the New York Marathon. Ticking off a bucket list race and a half in an electric atmosphere after Shalane Flannagan became the first USA women’s winner in 40 years.

Our own stars ran…

John Garside – 3:47:56
Monica Green – 4:18:02
Jude Mansfield – 4:18:03

A big word too for Kathy Bailey. While nursing injuries that kept her out of the big day we’re very proud of the support and captain’s spirit she has shown over the last few months. An absolute credit to herself and the club.

K&D were delighted to see Kathy get a 5k run in on her trip. You can’t keep our good Kathy down! A reminder for us to all #BeMoreKathy

Centurions GP #1

Blimey. Is it really that time of year again? With building work on Babbs Mill meaning a longer walk to the start and a narrow first mile it meant getting out hard and early to secure a decent position in the field. A great K&D turn out saw Chris Sharp, Rosie Marsh, Louise Bell, Paul Williams and Mary Heald all pick up overall or age group podium prizes.  Read more

We didn’t spot any of you around the country this weekend. Presumably you were all off working hard on Sunday long runs? Or if you’re Kathy baking pre-NYC Trip Cookies and Flapjacks. Which looked fantastic.  Otherwise here’s you’re remaining baked goods-free (*sad face emoji*) weekend recap…

Brueton parkrun:

You wait three years to get the position number 1 token at parkrun then two come along in three weeks. Chairman Darren took advantage of a quiet week at the front to run 17:48 and finish first overall at Brueton. Jane Evans showed good form to push him hard though – she clocked 17:58. That’s Jane’s 46th first finish for the women. Putting her only 4 behind Peter Brookes who holds the men’s title with 50. Will we see a woman sitting at the top of the tree soon? Glass Ceilings Smashed.

It was a Chairman Party for the men with the Obama to Darrens Trump*… Jonathan Randall running 18:56 for second K&D man while Edward Long finished third man in 20:03.

*These Nukes, Bad People, I don’t know if you saw my innaugauration crowds? Biggest in Knowle, Bigly. Nukes. Uranium. Bad People. Johnathan Randalls Emails. FBI…

Sorry. Where were we? Oh Yes..

Following the excellent efforts of Jane Evans was Louse Bell who is training well on Wednesday nights and running well at weekends. She ran 23:34 to finish ahead of third woman Jan Hornby. I believe this is Jan’s first time on the women’s podium so congrats on her time of 26:26.

Congrats to Nigel Collins who showed great post-marathon training benefits with an excellent 26:17 PB! Subhash Agarwalla continued his fine improvement with a 25:28 PB and Neil Letham ran 24:33 showing that the blokes we’re on fire this weekend. Not to be outdone though Lennie Watson ran 44:07 to set a new PB and strike one back for the women. Read more

Tissington Half:

What has now become a yearly pilgrimage and right of passage for many of our club members. Once again our delightful bunch of K&D stalwarts and newbies packed up their prosecco and running shoes and headed off to the wonders of Tissington.

Judging by the team photo you’d assume they’d not be allowed within 100 miles of any civilised town but they were welcomed back to Tissington with open arms.

Sue Wassell took to headlines winning her age group (Women’s 18-24 she told me…). A brilliant victory.

K&D’s very own Ant & Dec got their guns and nobbly knee’s out despite it being Autumn.  Althought someone needs to a) get the hedge trimmers out for Hagrid’s beard and b) show Chef-Richard how to attach his number to his vest (unless Lynsey won’t let him use safety pins without her supervision? Which would make sense… for everyone’s safety).

Well done to everyone who ran. Seeing you going off on your jaunts as a team is a wonderful sight; teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Mad as a box of frogs you lot are.

Chester Marathon:

Emma Lowe wasn’t happy with the time she ran when she completed Edinburgh Marathon. So she worked bloody hard all over summer and absolutely smashed 44 minutes off her PB. 44 Minutes!! Her new PB sits at a very shiny 3:41:11. An outstanding time and just reward for the hard work she has put in every single week. Read more

With two weeks to go until the Big Birmingham Bash many of our runners were off on their final long or longish runs. There were a few of our fine members dotted around though collecting medals from those Oct 1st Half Marathons. By a very weird quirk of fate the only results so far from our runners this week come from runs beginning with letter’s B and C. So therefore, in honour of Cardiff, Belheim, Brueton, Cannon Hill, Chipping Sodbury and Bideford… this week’s letters of the week are B and C.

Cardiff Half:

Dewi Griffiths enjoyed a massive PB of 61:31 to go into true world class territory. Our very own Max ‘Gimme Some’ Gimson ran 1:36:36. A non-too shabby performance and only slightly off his own PB.

Blenheim Half:

Gary ‘The Wocket’ Wickett clocked 1:56:04 around the half marathon at the picturesque Blenheim Palace Half Marathon. Last seen trying to convince the caretaker that he was moving in Gary will no doubt be pleased with his sub-2 clocking.

Brueton parkrun:

With a new course Brueton shifted to the keep left mantra. Those of you with long memories will remember running that direction so while it might take a couple of weeks to get used to we applaud the organisation committee’s continued innovation to keep the run going with increased numbers.

It was a close race for the men with Gareth Wainwright, Darren John, Rob Michaelson-Yeates all running within 30 seconds of one another. Gareth’s 17:01 was chased by Darren’s 17:22 and club newbie Rob in 17:31. Rob’s parkrun profile still say’s Bearbrook but he’s going to be Green and Gold’s latest addition to the men’s super-swift ranks.

Siobhan Cotter took the gold for our women in 22:36. She finished ahead of Sarah Cattell in 23:28 and Mary Heald in 24:21. With growing strength in depth our ladies are looking strong and fast. Throw in a Rosie, Jane, Claire, Emma, Kate, Jude, PBing Rachel, K&D stalwarts Amanda and Monica, Post-Preggers Flick and healthy again soon we hope Kathy among many others and you have the makings of an excellent women’s team; perhaps K&D’s best ever. Reward for so many women training smart and racing hard.

Cannon Hill parkrun:

Speaking of strength in depth recent signee Jack Bristow added to the mid-17 minute parkruns with a swift 17:40 at Cannon Hill. Almost quick enough to beat the new parking charges at the park.

Chipping Sodbury parkrun:

Great name for a parkrun that. Man Quarmby ran 26:10 while Woman Quarmby ran 30:56. Well done Chris and Jane Q!

Bideford parkrun:

The old Bideford. Peter Harvey showed he’s no old Biddy with a 28:50.
