Men’s 12 Stage Relay Submission of Interest:

K&D Women fielded three superb teams at the 4 Stage Road Relays. The women run a shorter course than the men.

(Why? We can’t think of any reason they shouldn’t be on the 5.8k men’s course. K&D would fully support any move to equalise the distances).

However our K&D Women blitzed their individual legs. Jane Evans stormed round in third place on the first leg against some of the finest athletes in the UK. Unfortunately K&D Women lost 28 places as the officials failed to alert Rosie to Jane finishing her leg, Rosie unfortunately lost a number of minutes. However taking the positives it was lovely to see Rosie Marsh back in Green and Gold after a long injury lay-off. Rachel Gifford and Flick Sharp pulled K&D back from 31st to 14th on their legs. Our women were 14th team and 11th club overall in the Midlands. Had they not lost more than 2 minutes at the handover then a top-10 place would have been within their sights. it’s all part of the Relays fun though.

        Rachel Gifford (15) 16:15
        Felicity Sharp (14) 17:40

K&D B put together an excellent run of results to finish inside the top-50. The team were superbly consisten as they ran a time that should do them incredibly proud.

        Kerry Thompson (47) 19:22
        Nicola Evans (49) 20:28

K&D C also put together an excellent day of running as Caroline Edwards highlighted the team. After a long injury lay off she smashed several minutes off her Relay leg best. Having so many Men’s and Women’s team running was a real achievement for the club and they created a real buzz on the day. Headbands were donned and team-work kept everyone on time and running well.

There are 1365 registered athletics clubs in England. In a brilliant display of team work, humour, dedication and the K&D culture our Men’s team delivered a brilliant result against the very best athletes in England (and Wales).

Firstly, a massive thank you to Dave Carbutt and Ainsley Wainwright. Both men stepped in at the last minute to ensure K&D had a full team and showed the incredible strength in depth we now have. Legends. Ainsley hasn’t been well for a few days so the commitment to still turn out for the club is amazing and a great display of teamwork.

As an example of the quality of the field K&D competed against on Saturday Alex Yee ran the fastest 8.5km long leg of the day… in 24:57. Insane. 54 men ran under 30 minutes for 8.5km on the first leg alone. As the kids say: Race was LIT. Despite qualifying a couple of times before this was K&D’s Nationals debut.

After five hours of racing K&D emerged as the 46th best men’s club in England. A sensational result. 69 Team competed on the day and excluding the big boy’s B teams K&D’s 46th best men’s team is an incredible achievement against a field full of top class runners and internationals.

Full Results

(S) = Short Leg 5.2km-ish

Team – 46th Club/49th Overall – 5:00:28

Chris Sharp – 28:42 (L)
Paul Bentley – 19:18 (S)
Darren John – 31:01 (L)
Chris Morgan – 17:11 (S)
Rob Michaelson-Yeates (L)
Tim Price – 18:19 (S)
Jack Bristow – 31:04 (L)
David Carbutt – 18:48 (S)
Chris Thorley – 32:58 (L)
Ainsley Wanwright – 22:26 (S)
Gareth Wainwright – 30:37 (L)
Torsten Roesler – 18:56 (S)

With a team missing the talents of Joe Read, Simon Bentley, Ricky Stewart, Richard Dixon, Rob Ambrose, John Randall and many others – most teams would struggle… but none of that for K&D who now boast a strength in depth to rival all but the very biggest clubs in the country.

The Midland’s Autumn 6 Stage Road Relays take place in late September. K&D Men will be picking A and B teams of 6 men for each based on form to be as competitive as possible. We will then fill as many other teams as possible at these fantastic events. Midland Relay isn’t quite so fierce and we encourage everyone to join in!

I spent yesterday at The Samuel Johnson Museum in London after work. It is very good. I suggest you visit. To quote Johnson:

“To do nothing every man is ashamed; and to do much, almost every man is unwilling or afraid.”
Johnson: Idler #48 (March 17, 1759)

Do not be that Idler that is unwilling or afraid. Lets Run. Upcoming activities include:

The Autumn is now coming and with it brings the Road Relays at Sutton Park.  For those who haven’t done these before there are teams for men running 5.848km and women running 4.315km.  They are run in relay with runners grouped according to ability.  This means the faster runners will be together, but also means any ability can join in and is a great team event.  Knowing your effort helps the group certainly makes you push that bit harder!!

As always, K&D have a great team atmosphere and everyones efforts are rewarded! We need to enter names for the race by 4th September so please let Kathy or Simon know if you would like to join in ASAP.

Our intrepid K and D teams raced at the Midland Road Relays on Saturday 2nd April at Sutton Park over a tough multi stage race.

FotorCreated

The men raced over a gruelling 12 stages, 32 mile race.  As they have done for the last 3 years, achieved qualification to the National Championships in a couple of weeks.  The team were led out by Chris Sharp (11th on his stage) who is deep into London marathon training and looking extremely strong.  He was supported by Joe Read, Pete Grime and Pat Moss on the longer 5.3 mile stages.  There were some great performances in the following 8 shorter 3.1 mile stages with team captain, Simon Bentley (9th on his stage), bringing the team home on the last stage to finish 21st overall.

The women fielded 2 teams in a 6 stage race over the same gruelling course as the men.  Fastest on the long stages were Monica Green (25th on her stage) and Emma Donnelly and on the shorter stages Jane Hunt (29th on her stage) and Rachel Aston. There was a nail biting finish as the women’s teams battled it out to finish 41st and 42nd overall.
