With Brueton off due to ice it was left to Telford 10k and Centurions Grand Prix to keep the assorted K&D’ers out of trouble this weekend.

Telford 10k:

Re-arranged after snow broke the course in December the Telford 10k is one of the fastest 10k’s in the UK. A top class field was slightly weakened due to county cross country on Saturday and a rearranged date but the race was won in 29:12 by Charlie Hulson, former National XC Champion. Our own Adam O’Nions led K&D home in 44:02 while Claire Maggs took the first place for K&D Women – despite initially being missed off the results. A big well done to Isabel too who marked her return after a long lay off.

Results:
Adam O’Nions – 44:02
Claire Maggs – 54:33
Lorna Davies – 55:04
Amanda Marklew – 55:45
Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell – 57:03
Sian Davies – 1:00:37
Isabel Arthur – 1:00:37
Steve Marks – 1:05:40
Fiona Holland – 1:07:37

Centurions GP 3:

Centurions was quiet too this week with XC and Telford spreading out the field like Nutella on a bagel. With no Olympic ringers our own Rosie Marsh won the women’s race with Darren John finishing 4th overall (and being told off for racing by everyone because he’s been a poorly boy). The course was reversed due to ice and we’re convinced that makes it a slower course. Physics.

Results:

TBC.

Centurions GP #2:

Results still to be confirmed due to Centurions results gopher being away yesterday. Once located and results are uploaded expect a post.

Brueton parkrun:

With cross country leaving much of K&D non-parkrunning it was left to Paul Bentley to take his moment in the spotlight. His first K&D parkrun first since joining the club recently Paul ran 18:57. He was followed by Edward Long in 19:46 and the returning to form Anthony Dutton in 19:49.

Monica Green took first place for our women in 21:16 – leaving her competitors green in envy. Bdum-tsh! In a close contest Mary Heald and Louise Bell ran 23:03 and 23:15 for second and third K&D.

Alina Awdry took her PB down to 25:24. A big congrats on your new best Alina.

Coventry parkrun:

Ian Maidment ran 26:31 to ring in December at Coventry.

Cannon Hill parkrun:

Big Dave Carbutt made use of the wide open space of Cannon Hill to stretch his legs and show us what he’s got… (oooh, matron) in 19:06.

Penallta parkrun:

Steve Marks returned to the homeland to run what we hope isn’t his Penallta-mate parkrun in 31:28.

Bideford parkrun:

Now his regular jaunt Peter Harvey clocked 28:08 at Bideford.

On a weekend of fantastic performances here are two that really stand out:

As many will know Claire Deeley has been dealing with with health issues for the last year. This weekend she took a big step forward at the Centurions GP and, in true K&D fashion, she did so with the support of her fantastic team mates. Well done to Claire and everyone involved yesterday. A proud moment for the club to see you all come together, to see Claire continue to make progress and to see you all smiling after 5 miles.

Secondly:

Although not a club member many of us are very fond of our Margaret from parkrun. At The Solihull Half Margaret took a tumble at 12 miles. Not that she’d let something as little as that stop her. Its rude to mention a ladies age so lets just say she’s between 82 and 84 years old. Margaret picked herself up, dusted herself off and finished in 3:39:04. Despite being bloodied and bruised Margaret was her usual cheery self and we’ll no doubt be seeing her back at parkrun with Luna her dog sooner rather than later. Margaret, we wish you a speedy recovery and admire your spirit!

Manchester Marathon:

The first big marathon of the UK spring season took place in Manchester. The Greater Manchester Marathon is fast and flat with the strongest domestic field outside of London.

K&D was represented by 4 men in conditions that got very warm in the second half as Manchester was bathed in sun:

Darren John – 2:54:21 (PB)
Steve McDonald – 3:10:15 (PB)
Ed Bower – 3:30:12 (PB)
Michael McDonald – 3:59:47

Solihull Half:

The inaugural Solihull Half Marathon took place this weekend just gone. On the winner’s trophy for the ladies goes the name of Jane Evans. A great result to have a K&D lady on top of the podium and officially the first ever winner of the event. Jane ran 1:24:10.

Seeing the club so well represented throughout the field was a great sight on a beautiful morning’s running.

Berliner Halbmarathon

Three of our ladies adventured out to take in the sights of Berlin. Enjoy some Pretzels and currywurst and a run through the streets of one of the great European cities.

Our ladies did themselves proud with Isabel Collins taking the gold.  Isabel ran 1:58:55. She was just ahead of Louise Taylor who ran 2:16:27 and Penelope Garner who clocked 2:18:45. Congrats ladies. Go enjoy the beer halls!

Centurions GP #6

With runners here, there and everywhere on Sunday our usual strong contingent of K&D runners was a little depleted over at the last Centurions GP finale.

Centurions GP#2:

The benefit of Centurions being a day after Cross Country league fixtures is a thinner field as many of those quick ‘uns can’t handle a double weekend (softies!). For those with an eye on the series table and looking at age category trophies it gives a great opportunity to sneak a few extra places up the table and register a handy points bonus.

A slightly lethargic pre-race natter suggested it might be a tough one, until Ann turned up in what can only be described as the loudest Christmas themed tights ever seen.  Read more

New York Marathon

In the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, home of Ross, Joey, Chandler, Rachel, Phoebe and Monica, our very own Gareth Wainwright clocked in a sharp 02:52:52 at the New York City Marathon. That grabbed him a top 500 finish; officially coming home in 422nd.

Centurions Grand Prix #1

14909900_1793083630904257_8844235640131075058_nCenturions, our nearest rivals, aren’t all bad. They do have the Centurions GP series to keep us going through winter so we’ll cut them some slack. Race 1 was blisteringly fast, an Irish ringer dropping in while visiting the area on a trip and leading the race home in a stunning 25:34. Ooft.

Richard Dixon was first K&D male runner home in 29:52. Emma Donnelly took that honour for our ladies in 36:53. Congratulations to the ladies that took home three of the prizes available. Emma Donnelly, Jane Hunt and Kathy Bailey all getting the nod in the post-race ceremonies.

Don’t quite feel ready for XC yet? Looking to break up those cold and dull winter runs with a local race? Enjoy seeing 90% of Brueton parkrun on Sunday Morning?

Six races for twenty-five quid, or a fiver per race. It’s fast, it’s flat, sometimes there are puddles; but it’s perfect for all abilities and full of local runners & clubmates.
