Did Santa bring you a few pennies in your stocking? We’d like to recommend you pick up a parkrun Barcode Wristband in the new year. The wristband replaces the barcode you have laminated on work time and also has handy space for any medical issues you might have AND a contact phone number for emergencies. Statistically it’s likely we’ll experience a medical issue during a training session one day; if you have your medical info and a contact number on you it’ll help enormously. It helps even more if you’re training alone and collapse with only a stranger to help…

Run Smart. Carry your ICE info with you.

Telford 10k:

Telford’s AC’s end of year hurrah made a mockery of its winter date and proved to be hot enough to melt the polar ice caps. In a scorching race 17 men ran sub-30 for the 10k course, including the winner Joshua Grace (29:21). Joshua pipped 2008 Beijing Olympian Tom Lancashire (29:22) on the line by a single second. Evidence of the field’s quality showed with 2015 National XC Champion Charlie Hulson finishing fifth, with a total of 37 men running sub-31 minutes. Joshua Grace’s winning time ranks him 8th in Britain in 2016.

Kirk Giles was first K&D runner home in 35:33. He was followed by Darren John in 36:28. Both runners snuck into the top 200 taking 170th and 196th place. Ridiculous. Flick Sharp was third across the line for the club, and first lady in green and gold with a time of 42:13. She finished 335th overall but a very creditable 43rd in the ladies competition.

Darren Maggs was next across the line in 47:39 followed by Sally Anderson, 54:17, and Claire Maggs in 56:22.  Read more

Centurions GP#2:

The benefit of Centurions being a day after Cross Country league fixtures is a thinner field as many of those quick ‘uns can’t handle a double weekend (softies!). For those with an eye on the series table and looking at age category trophies it gives a great opportunity to sneak a few extra places up the table and register a handy points bonus.

A slightly lethargic pre-race natter suggested it might be a tough one, until Ann turned up in what can only be described as the loudest Christmas themed tights ever seen.  Read more

Brueton parkrun:

Making light work of the previous night’s curry and shall we say… refreshments, Gareth Wainwright show’d he can handle his drink with a 17:11. He was first K&D runner home followed by Darren John. who had polished off two pizza’s the night before. Darren ran 18:15. No word on Anthony Dutton’s pre-race binge but his 18:52 was his fastest in a year. Which deserves a celebratory Chinese.

Flick Sharp had clearly had her Weetabix for breakfast; paced by Chris Morgan she absolutely destroyed that 20 minute barrier that has been annoying her for so long. 19:32. A massive PB and thoroughly well deserved. Siobhan Cotter continued her consistent run with a 22:55 finish. She is peppering that 22:30-23:00 bracket with multiple runs. Sarah Cattell was third lady with a time of 23:58.

Although the morning was cold the conditions were favourable for fast times; as well as Flick Sharp PB Corner is bursting with patrons.

Lynsey Drakeley ran 29:04 – PB!
Smita Deshpande ran 28:48 – PB!
Philip Lindsey recently joined the club, celebrating by running 20:46 – PB!
Brian Corr ran 20:50 – PB!
Mark Amyes ran 21:31 – PB!
Isabel Arthur ran 26:50 – PB!
Ann Spencer-Dowdeswell ran 26:32 – PB!
Subhash Agarwalla ran 25:53 – PB!

Bish. Bash. Bosh!

Cannon Hill parkrun:

Big Dave Carbutt ran a storming 18:18. You guessed it. He also gets a pass to PB Corner. Move aside people. Another one coming through. This many people in PB Corner must be a fire hazard surely?

Quiet weekend gone, XC and Centurions madness resumes next weekend.

Great Running Team!

XC reports will come later but for now here is the rest of the weekend action:

Brueton parkrun

With fears of a monsoon-like deluge it was a hastily cobbled together course, adjusted so that runners, scanners, marshalls and spectators could take shelter in the Brueton parkrun Maori hut. As the weather is want to do, it then trolled us all with a pleasant and refreshing mist instead of the expected white-water rapids inducing downpour. I blame Michael Fish.

With XC Leagues kicking off in the afternoon it was a much depleted field this week.

Anthony Dutton was first K&D man across the line in 20:14. He was followed by Paul Williams in 20:37. Andrew Cox rounded out the male top-3 with a 21:48 run.

Flick Sharp was third K&D runner home overall, and first lady for the club. Her 20:50 time was a strong run on a slightly longer than usual course. Siobhan Cotter ran 25:05 to continue her run of regular appearances in this section. Sarah Cattell’s 25:42 took her to third for K&D ladies. Smita Deshpande ran 29:41 to record a PB. Read more

New York Marathon

In the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, home of Ross, Joey, Chandler, Rachel, Phoebe and Monica, our very own Gareth Wainwright clocked in a sharp 02:52:52 at the New York City Marathon. That grabbed him a top 500 finish; officially coming home in 422nd.

Centurions Grand Prix #1

14909900_1793083630904257_8844235640131075058_nCenturions, our nearest rivals, aren’t all bad. They do have the Centurions GP series to keep us going through winter so we’ll cut them some slack. Race 1 was blisteringly fast, an Irish ringer dropping in while visiting the area on a trip and leading the race home in a stunning 25:34. Ooft.

Richard Dixon was first K&D male runner home in 29:52. Emma Donnelly took that honour for our ladies in 36:53. Congratulations to the ladies that took home three of the prizes available. Emma Donnelly, Jane Hunt and Kathy Bailey all getting the nod in the post-race ceremonies.

Dublin Marathon14915274_667837540060818_43195492572811662_n

Over in Dublin Monica Green made a late in the year PB marathon dash. In the appropriately coloured Green of Knowle & Dorridge she finished 9th in her category. She ran a very swift 3:24:08. That is only just outside the top 100 in her age category on the runbritain.com rankings for the year. Hope she got a celebratory Guinness after.

Brueton parkrun

Not content with going sub 17 for the first time last week Gareth Wainwright did it again. Currently building up for New York Marathon Gareth is in cracking form and ran 16:48. Darren John’s recovery continued as he ran his fastest 5k since he broke himself back in July with an 18:41 for second K&D man. Right behind him was Paul Williams who was only 3 seconds off his PB running 19:12.

Siobhan Cotter was first K&D lady this week; and celebrated with a shiny new PB of 22:23. Kathy Bailey was close behind in 22:29 with Jane Hunt continuing her good form in 22:40. It’s great to see those ladies pushing each other on to faster times as a group. Read more

With a number of runners off breaking their XC spikes in at the Midland Counties XC relays (a post forthcoming once results are out…) it was left for our parkrunners to hold the fort; and a number of them did so with aplomb.

A massive congratulations to Gareth Wainwright who’s 17:00 PB has been a lingering for far too long. After a number of very near misses he finally broke 17 minutes at Brueton. Smashing through to a 16:45. That makes him the 4th fastest K&D runner ever at Brueton, only behind Sharp, Bentley and Reid.

A sensational run by Jane Hunt saw her run 22:29. Not only is that a PB; it registered a massive 80.50% age grade rating.

Birmingham Half Marathon

30 of you ran Birmingham Half on Sunday 16th October. Congratulations to those who ran their first half marathon’s ever, PB’s or even just ran well. Gareth Wainwright became the 7th K&D man to break 80 minutes this year. When will the madness end? Apologies for not highlighting all the PB’s etc. but look at you all! Literally too many achievements to list.

Tissington Trail Half Marathon

An invasion they’re calling it. They haven’t seen such a force in Tissington since the English Civil War. The masses of K&D poured into Tissington this weekend. In their clan’s green and gold the troops donned a set of leggings that could have blinded opposition archers from 500 yards.  In psychedelic zebra print they ran; a herd of Zebra is called a Dazzle appropriately enough.

Among many of the brilliant performances were the likes of Jo Tork, Amanda Marklew, and Paul Jeffrey, all of whom ran their first ever half-marathons.
